
Matt Romaine is Venture Partner at Great Wave Ventures. An ex-founder turned venture capitalist, he has been investing since 2020 and is currently Managing Partner at Shizen Capital. Previously, Matt co-founded Gengo, an AI training data platform launched in 2008 in Tokyo, which was backed by venture capital firms including 500 Startups, Atomico, and Intel Capital. The company was acquired by Lionbridge in 2019. Prior to Gengo, Matt was an audio research scientist at Sony Corporation.
Matt holds dual Bachelor of Arts degrees in Music and Computer Science from Brown University and a Master of Arts in Music, Science, and Technology from Stanford University. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family, running a ryokan, traveling, and training for triathlons.
